ACTRESS Rhiana Griffith has been acclaimed as a promising young artist after the opening of her second exhibition of paintings last week.
The 19-year-old, who starred opposite Vin Diesel in the film Pitch Black, launched her collection of vibrant images in Surry Hills yesterday.
Griffith says she is determined to build a career as an actress, but it is her artwork that is currently commanding attention -- including from co-star Vin Diesel.
"He loved my work and said he wanted some, so when I went to LA I took the artworks and now they're hanging all over his house," the Hunter Valley-based actress said.
Her latest eclectic showcase, titled A Month In Kaos, is a representation of life's chaotic pace, portrayed by the use of bright colours and mixed textures.
"I've been really fortunate to have done a lot at a young age, and the opportunity I've had in the acting world has lent itself to my painting ability," she said.
At the age of 13, in 1998, she featured in the Australian film 15 Amore, and in the same year starred in the sci-fi hit Pitch Black.
Subsequent roles then included parts on television dramas Home And Away and White Collar Blue. Griffith's next film, Dark Fury, the animated sequel to Pitch Black, will be released in June.
Griffith is keeping a level head when it comes to success.
"I'm being considered for a few major roles in the US this year, but I'm happy to take my time.
"Right now, things seem to be revolving around my art and my fans who are buying it, and I'm pretty happy with that." Griffith's exhibition is showing at Cafe 249 Art Gallery in Riley St, Surry Hills, until May 30.
